Surreal Southwest

While living in Texas, we drove to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and had an opportunity to visit the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, where I got to enjoy her beautiful works of art! I was really drawn to the cow skulls she painted and decided to use them as a subject matter. Now that I look back, it may have been the summer heat in Texas or the beauty of Santa Fe, but they all influenced me for this original piece. The work speaks to the idea of expansion and contraction. It shows death, life, and beauty in harmony. All these are a part of the circle of life, as they say. The piece shows three distinct objects that mingle together to evoke a sense of the surrealism and magic of the Southwest.
